New In: Rimmel London Sculpting Palette + Lip Balm

The whole contouring and highlighting thing has been so on trend in the last couple of years in the beauty industry, but I feel like it's taken a while for drugstore brands to catch up and come out with some really stand-out products particularly in terms of highlighters.

Rimmel is one of my favourite drugstore brands and in the last few years they have had some really great launches to rival their more pricey counterparts, notably their foundation and concealer base products. The Kate Moss range also continues to release great lipsticks and I still reach for their nudes on a regular basis. Excitingly, the line has now expanded to include a sculpting palette, consisting of a 3-in-1 highlight, contour and blush. They have also released a lip balm in the usual Kate packaging but in a white tube.

The Dressmaker Costume Exhibition

I'm a bit of a sucker for anything related to history or culture, and when I travel I love visiting museums, galleries, memorials and the like. When combined with fashion and style, I am all over it and you can be sure that I will be first in line. I first heard about The Dressmaker Costume Exhibition last year when it was showing out in Winchelsea. Luckily I didn't have to travel that far to see it, as they have just opened up in Melbourne today after a great run in the countryside.

Thank You + Candle Giveaway!

A couple of weeks ago, I attended an alumni event held by my alma mater, in which Daniel Flynn, co-founder of the Thankyou Group was the keynote speaker. Since hearing him speak and devouring his first book on the company's journey, I have been in a very reflective mood and have become much more conscious of everything around me.

This post is brought to you by Nuffnang and Circa Home.

Bathroom Tour

For those who are a bit nosey and like to have a peek into other people's world (without being creepy, of course..) I thought I'd share one of the busiest places in the house - my bathroom cupboards, where I hoard a million and one products!!

New In: Elizabeth Arden Skincare + Makeup Launches

My first foray into Elizabeth Arden was their 5th Avenue perfume which I remember wearing very, very early on. Since then, I haven't really been inclined to try out much else from their beauty range although I've always been curious about the raved about 8 Hour Cream. In my mind, the brand has always been targeted towards a more mature audience, so I was very keen to learn more about their offerings at the recent product launch of 3 new items, revealed on the night as a new primer, mascara and anti-aging product.

Review: Laneige BB Cushion

It's interesting how often I am complimented on my skin these days. I say this because between the ages of around 13 - 16, I had really awful acne in my T-Zone area. I never broke out on my cheeks/chin or anywhere else on my face, but my forehead and nose areas were like a war zone. Without understanding the science behind skincare/makeup OR my actual skin, I started wearing heavy foundation at a young age because of how self-conscious I felt, thinking it would help. Obviously looking back now, I wish I had just let my skin breathe and heal on its own, rather than picking, covering with layers of foundation, and even sporting a full forehead fringe to ensure my forehead never saw the light of day, only transferring even more dirt and oils from my hair to my face.

Experimenting with makeup at a young age also meant that I learnt a lot more earlier on, before many of my friends started becoming interested in using cosmetics purely for aesthetic purposes as opposed to my reason being skincare concerns. My skin has come a long way in the last 10 years and while I get the odd pimple here and there around the nose, I have not had persistent, active breakouts for at least 5 years. Anyway - the point is people, although on the surface it may look like I have a flawless complexion, I have actually perfected the art of using a very lightweight, water-based foundation on a daily basis to look like my natural skin. In reality, underneath it all remains the red acne scars which have never really faded. I spoke a bit more about this in my #PowerOfMakeup post.

Japanese and Korean Beauty Haul

If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram (@suelovexx) you probably would've seen snippets of what I got up to in the last few weeks. If you don't, I went to Japan and South Korea! A trip I had been planning and looking forward to for months. In my last visit to Japan, I didn't pick up many Asian beauty products due to the sheer variety to choose from, plus my own lack of knowledge in which brands were known for what. And of course the South Koreans are known for their innovation, particularly in the skincare industry so I was super keen to pick up some new additions for my regime. Thanks to everyone for your recommendations as well - couldn't have done it with them!!

Hello, 2016.

Another year gone. Each one seems to go by quicker than the last. Thought I would share one of my last #fotd's for 2015, for a special dinner using the usual suspects - my HG products.

I've been on a real musical kick recently, having seen Wicked, Les Miserables, Lion King and Strictly Ballroom all in the last 18 months or so. I was lucky enough to be given double passes to see Cats the Musical with Nuffnang in its first week of opening in Melbourne this week.

2015 Christmas Gift Ideas

I honestly cannot believe I am even writing this post already... it feels like only a couple of months ago that I was pulling together ideas for Christmas 2014, but a year has flown by already. It's definitely starting to feel very festive with stores everywhere displaying their seasonal decor. I've spent the last few weeks thinking about which items to suggest as gift ideas this year and am quite excited to share!

Current Skincare Loves: Morning and Night

As my last post featured my bare face, I thought it would be fitting to this week lead on with a bit about the skincare products I am currently using. Generally I'm happy to spend a bit more $$$ on skincare as there is definitely a difference between drugstore and high end products in terms of ingredients. There are some really fantastic mid-tier brands that work really well without breaking the bank though, and I'm a big fan of French pharmacy brands which I've mentioned time and time again throughout the history of my blogging life!

I have been using all of these items consistently for a while now so I feel well-informed to vouch for their performance. I love this very fitting quote by David Khoo, Olay Skincare Scientist who says: “Make good skincare a twice daily habit and don’t wait till summer is here. Even the best skincare products take time to work (and you should be a little sceptical about products that promise dramatic results in 7 days or less), 2-4 weeks is a reasonable time to expect to see results.” So without further ado, I'll jump into it!

#PowerOfMakeup

Growing up, I have always been very self-conscious of my appearance, particularly my skin. In my early high school days, I suffered from really terrible acne on my forehead and around my nose area. I grew a fringe for many years to hide my forehead, which in hindsight was an awful decision as the oils from my hair would have done nothing to help my skin breathe. I also picked at the pimples around my nose area, which now, years later still leaves visible scarring and redness. It's no surprise then that I began dabbling with foundation and concealer from a young age, born from my insecurities associated with puberty. About 4 or 5 years ago, I went to a dermatologist intending to try Roaccutane, a very potent acne treatment as I honestly felt I needed it, however the specialist recommended I try the pill first. As a result, I was on the pill for about 2 years and luckily it really worked well in clearing up breakouts. Though still prone to the odd pimple here and there every few weeks, thankfully for the most part my skin has been fairly manageable since I came off it. As I mentioned though, I'm still very conscious of the redness and scarring that now serve as a reminder of my teenage years. One day I would love to feel comfortable enough to leave the house without an inch of makeup, but right now my bare minimum is concealer around the nose to neutralise the redness. Personal story aside, today I thought I would share a more full coverage look using some of the products I have been loving, and show what a difference makeup can make, especially for my confidence.

At Home Spa Bath!

It only took about 23 years but I finally have access to a bath tub which you may have seen a sneaky peek of here. I have given away so many gifted bath products over the years so was extremely excited to be able to keep and actually use my first ever Lush bath bomb a couple of months ago. This cute bunny one was part of their limited edition Easter treats earlier this year.

New In: Kate Moss by Rimmel Nude Collection

Kate Moss and Rimmel have been working together for a number of years now, releasing some of the most well-loved drugstore products in the beauty world. I remember loving the original Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipsticks in the black and red packaging which are still a great staple, especially for those just beginning to dabble with makeup. Even though I don't reach for nudes regularly, I just could not resist the pale pink Nude Collection which was released in September.

COLAB by Ruth Crilly Dry Shampoo

I have always been a user of dry shampoo and during the last 40% off haircare items sale at Priceline, I was very excited to spot COLAB on the shelves. COLAB is a line of dry shampoos developed by Ruth Crilly of A Model Recommends fame that I have heard much about from British beauty experts.

Spring Lip Favourites

Now that it seems Spring has officially hit Melbourne, I've finally been able to pull out some brighter colours from my lipstick drawers. I don't get much use out of lipsticks at all in Winter because of my dry and peeling lips problem (refer to here) so in this transition season I like to ease myself back into it with some really hydrating products that still inject some colour into my life.

I'm Lactose Intolerant?!

A bit different to my usual posts... but today I wanted to talk about my recently official 'diagnosis' of lactose intolerance. More writing and less pretty pictures today. In the last 12 months or so, I came to realise that my constant tummy grumbling and bloating was not because I was always hungry, and in fact, not normal at all! I don't know why but I always just put it down to not eating the right amount of food, and never thought to consider if it could be something in my actual diet that was affecting my stomach. A friend at work is lactose intolerant and we used to chat about it quite often when people were making coffees in the kitchen, and that's when it got me thinking, leading to a bit of research.

The Struggle Returns: Dry, Flakey Lips

Last Winter I had a terrible time with my lips being dry and flakey, and really struggled to find some quality lip balms that actually helped to heal and nourish my lips. I kept up my routine in the warmer months in the hopes that I would escape such a battle this year, but sadly I did not come out unscathed. I tried a couple of new products this year and thought I would round up my favourites, both high end and drugstore. It's now officially Spring so I am hoping things will start returning to a more manageable stage now, so that I can whip out some bright lip colours!
