FOTD: Rosy Winter Look

Now well and truly in the coldest, darkest days of Melbourne's winter, I find myself really rugging up and not wanting step out into the harsh, chilling weather. Unfortunately I don't have much of an option, having to leave the house before it hits 8am everyday. I do however like to take some time in the morning to 'fake a glow' and look less miserable than I feel.

I have been trying out some new, mainly affordable drugstore products recently and thought I would share some of these items. It's a quick routine but I like to give myself about half an hour in the morning to take my time, rather than be in a rush.

Skincare and Hair Empties

It's crazy that in my years of blogging, I have never done an 'empties' post before. Considering these are some of my favourite posts to read, it amazes me that this is my first own one. I always like hearing people's thoughts after finishing items - obviously if something has been used up, it has to have been at least decent! In the past, I have generally thrown finished products out straight away and hardly ever thought to keep it aside. This is therefore an accumulation of various skincare and hair products I've used up in the last few months.

Cambodia and Vietnam 2014

It's been almost half a year since I came back from my month of Asian adventures and while I've briefly documented my Japanese and Chinese travels, I've been slack on the Cambodian and Vietnamese front. My friend who I met at uni is an international student from Vietnam and kindly offered for me to stay with her family in Ho Chi Minh City and also take a tour to Cambodia. So half way during my stay in China, I took a week's break and headed down south.

The Answer To My Dry Lips

Back to basics for today's post, talking all things lip balm. For the past half year or so, I've been battling with dry, flaky and generally unattractive lips. I've never suffered from anything similar in this area before so it was quite unexpected. In the past, I would use lip balm occasionally but certainly not on a regular basis throughout the day. The only thing that comes to mind is the Nuxe Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm, gift from France from my lovely friend. I used this every evening for about a year before I slept and by morning it would have sunk in. I am wondering whether the constant use of the Nuxe balm caused my lips to dry out? If so, I'm devastated because I loved the product itself! Regardless, I've taken a break from using it. In the meantime, I've tried countless products, both high and low end, almost in desperation to find something that would combat my problem. I thought I would share my thoughts on some of the products that have been part of my journey to find the perfect solution.

Night Out Makeup - Wicked and Armin

I don't think I'd be alone in saying that the makeup and getting ready routine is half the fun of an evening out. I thought I would share two of my more dramatic looks from the past month.

The first look was my face for the Armin Only Intense tour, a crazy night that had me limping home and sleeping at 11am the next morning. Being my first trance/rave event, I wasn't sure what to expect but it definitely ended up being a night to remember. The energy from the crowd right through til the early hours of the morning was infectious and my friend and I ended up running from Hisense Arena to Flinders St at 5am... don't even ask!

Alternatives to Clarisonic!

This post has been in the works for a long time coming... since last year! I've been playing around with several different cleansing tools that are reminiscent of the cult classic - the Clarisonic. In the past year or so I've noticed countless versions popping up from various brands, both high end and low end. Having never tried the Clarisonic but always curious about its benefits, I didn't hesitate to check out the more affordable versions. While I can't provide a direct comparison with the classic tool, I can still share my thoughts on those that I have tried.

For those who don't know how these curious devices work, think of them as a giant electric toothbrush that cleanses your face. Rather than manually applying cleanser and washing it off, these brushes will penetrate deeper to really reach the dirt and grime stuck within the pores and crevices beneath the top layer of your skin. The idea is to hold the brush head over certain areas of your face (forehead, cheeks, chin etc) for about 10 seconds at a time before moving on to the next. Afterwards your skin should feel squeaky clean (but hopefully not too tight) and well exfoliated.

Olay Regenerist Advanced Cleansing System

I purchased this not long after its release last year during a Chemist Warehouse sale. The retail price is around $35.00 however I managed to grab it for about $25.00 which is an absolute steal. It comes with one brush head, a battery and a mini cleanser to get you started. To be honest I never used the cleanser but I'm sure it's decent considering Olay are a renowned skincare brand as well. I've been using this one for over half a year now, for about 2 or 3 times a week (the recommended frequency).

Klorane Mango Range

I remember when dry shampoo first rose to popularity a few years ago and there were only a few in the market to choose from, one of them being Klorane. Now, the cult product has exploded and every hair care brand has one... long gone are the days of wondering 'what is dry shampoo?'. Klorane was the first one I ever tried and although I distinctly remember really liking it, for some reason I never expanded to trying out any other Klorane hair products. When these items lit up my doorstep in their vibrant orange colour, I immediately swapped them into my shower. After all, who can say no to mango scented products?!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

It's hard to believe that we're almost reaching halfway through 2014! It's the beginning of May now and that means Mother's Day is just around the corner. If you haven't already picked up something special for the most important woman in your life, here are a few skincare/fragrance ideas to get you started!

I'm a huge fan of sheet masks during the colder months so I've been treating myself with Lonvitalite every weekend. If I know you in real life, you may have received some startling Snapchats from me during my mask sessions! The masks are fantastic and really absorb well into my skin. The great thing about these Mother's Day packs are that they only cost $35.00 and contain the entire range of Lonvitalite masks. This covers everything from a facial, hand treatment and eye treatment - perfect for the overworked mother in dire need of a pamper session! I would also highly recommend it as the ultimate pack for yourself if you're interested in trying out Lonvitalite masks.

Work Appropriate Makeup

I hope everyone had a fantastic Easter/Anzac break! I took a little hiatus from blogging to relax and and enjoy some quality time with family and friends.

It's been over two months since I started my first full time job as a graduate of uni. This has definitely changed up my lifestyle significantly and I have just about settled into work. I've said goodbye to sleeping in til 10am and staying up til 2am, and instead I am now preparing to hit the hay at 9pm for a 6.30am morning call. It's been over three years since I was last in the habit of this so I can't say it's been an easy habit to shake off! I am loving my job and really enjoy the 'me time' I have each morning to pamper myself. My makeup routine hasn't changed much but I thought I would take this opportunity to share some of my current staples and new products I've been trying out.

First Aid Beauty!

For the past few months I've been hearing so much about First Aid Beauty products from our American YouTuber friends. I was always curious about the products but just assumed it was an American drugstore skincare line, completely unaware that Australia stocked the brand! I was provided the opportunity to trial some of the items and only then did I discover that they've been available in Woolworths stores nationally since November last year. Talk about slow! The brand was originally created by Lilli Gordon back in 2009.

Fairytales & Fantasy + Giveaway Winners

A few weeks ago I attended a beautiful intimate gathering to celebrate the launch of the fall collection by Mary Kay. Aptly named Fairytales & Fantasy, the range is housed in gorgeous purple packaging with intricate detailing. Not only is this perfect for 'radiant orchid', purple also happens to be my favourite colour so I was instantly drawn.

Salon Melbourne 2014

Two weeks ago I attended Salon Melbourne - an annual hair and beauty trade show for those working in the industry. The exhibition is not open to the general public however I was invited along as media.

From my experience last year, I knew to expect a huge crowd so I arrived quite early at 10am on Sunday morning. It was already fairly packed though nothing like the afternoon from what I heard afterwards!

Comedy Show Date Night

Firstly - can you believe a quarter of the year has already escaped us? How is that possible! It honestly feels like 2014 just began but time is just slipping away so quickly!

The annual Melbourne International Comedy Festival just kicked off at the end of last week and I had the opportunity to attend a show on Saturday night. Although I have lived in Melbourne my entire life, I have never gotten around to checking out the Comedy Festival even though it's my intention every year. Luckily my friends at Candlelight Productions were kind enough to provide me with a double pass to see the Squeaky Clean On Yard Duty show on opening night.

Embrace Your Skin

Stem cells have always been a somewhat controversial topic when spoken in the context of skincare and cosmetics. I was therefore thankful to have the opportunity to hear about grape stem cells (Vitis Vinifera) from the experts at Enbacci. These stem cells have been found to effectively reduce the appearance of stress on the skin and act as a preventative measure against ageing.

Enbacci first launched in 2013 as a luxury skincare brand with a line of basics. They have since developed a 3-Step skincare routine utilising Vitis Vinifera grape stem cells suitable for both men and women, specifically designed for sensitive skin.

Illamasqua Glamore Collection

Hi guys! I hope everyone is doing well. A quick update before I jump into today's post. March has not been very nice to me so far. I was in a car accident last Saturday on my way up to a function in Yarra Valley (never made it) so that put a downer on the Labour Day long weekend. Then today I was taken to hospital via ambulance because the nurse at my usual GP overdosed me on the injections I get monthly, causing a really severe reaction. Very, very annoying but I'm in a stable condition. Fingers crossed that my year will go upwards from here... surely that's enough for one month??

Seaside Chic Nails

You know that joyous feeling of receiving an unexpected gift? Well that's exactly how the wonderful team at ELES Cosmetics made me feel when I came home to this amazing package containing the new Brighton Nail Collection, inspired by the huts from Brighton Beach in the UK (which we also have at Melbourne's very own Brighton Beach).

Japan and China 13/14

From mid December to mid January, I was lucky enough to make a month-long trip to Asia, visiting Japan, China, Vietnam and Cambodia. I'm sure if you follow me on Instagram (@suelovexx), you would've seen snippets of my trip already. I had an amazing time and learnt so many different things about each country. Japan, Vietnam and Cambodia were all new for me so it was a wonderful and eye-opening experience. I could write an entire thesis on my travels but I'll let the photos express my thoughts. Look out for a future post on Cambodia and Vietnam!

Japan

I only went to Tokyo this time around but I would really love to return and travel more of Japan. I really enjoyed my short time there and the people were just lovely.

Lipstick Tag!

I have seen this tag going around the blogosphere and was inspired to do it after seeing it on one of my favourite blogs, sleepandwater. I'm a huge lip junkie though I've been quite good at resisting purchases lately, in an effort to use up my overflowing collection.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day to all the lovebirds out there! Regardless of whether you're in a relationship or not, I hope that everyone was able to spread the love and share the sentiment yesterday.

I had the perfect evening celebrating my fourth Valentine's Day with my man who surprised me with beautiful roses and tiramisu chocolates after work.
