New In: Bioderma Sensibio Spring Launches

I am all over any products that claim to reduce redness or target sensitive skin so I was really excited to hear about Bioderma's Spring releases. I'm already a big advocate for the brand and really believe in their products so I know they will be of excellent quality. Three new items join the Sensibio family along with their creams, gel, mask and of course the cult favourite H2O micellar water.

Rose Gold Love: Kate Moss x Rimmel London

You guys know that Rimmel London is one of my favourite affordable beauty brands and the Kate Moss ranges never fail to impress me. I can't quite believe it's been 15 years since they started working together! To celebrate this milestone, Kate has come out with an extra beauitful anniversary collection of Lasting Finish Lipsticks, complete with rose gold packaging. Nail polishes are also part of the release but I'm especially excited to be sharing some swatches of the beautiful lipsticks.

Travel Diaries: Kyoto, Nara and Uji

Not sure where the time has gone but it's already been over a month since my last installment of my Japan travel diaries.. not to mention it's October, AND we've just started daylight savings again. By the time I write my next travel post it'll be Christmas or something!! Today's recap is from my time in Kyoto with side trips to Nara and Uji, both within an hour away by train and very common tourist spots when visiting Kyoto.

Tribal Talk: Elyse Knowles x Ulta3

We all know I love a good lip, especially a bold, statement colour. I was thrilled to try out the new Tribal Talk collection from Australian brand ulta3 with the gorgeous Elyse Knowles as ambassador. The whole lip liner/lip cream kit thing is taking the beauty world by storm and I'm so glad that Ulta3 have released such an affordable yet impressive line of products to cater for everyone.

Carrie Goes Brunette .. And I Go Blonde!

Earlier this year, I took my mum and dad on a fun little adventure to be in the audience of Channel Ten's The Project live filming. I was especially excited to see Waleed Aly and the gorgeous Carrie Bickmore in their element. It was a good crowd on the day, and we weren't asked to do much aside from clapping and cheering when prompted. It was a really cool experience and what was even more awesome was bumping into Carrie in the lift after filming ended - she had already changed out of her glamorous outfit and straight into gym gear. So genuine and down to earth!

A few weeks ago my social media exploded with the news of Carrie having gone brunette. I was super surprised but totally impressed at how much it suited her! I later found out she used Garnier Nutrisse hair dye as part of their new campaign, and had the opportunity to hear more about Carrie's journey as well as some expert advice on colours suitable for my own hair.

New In: Bobbi Brown New Classics Luxe Lip Colours

To mark 25 years of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, the brand has launched a new campaign to celebrate women of all diversity to "Be Who You Are". It is all about self-confidence, empowerment and having faith in yourself. The campaign showcases over 40 women in all different industries of all different backgrounds and age, ranging from 13 to 83. This showcases the broad demographic that Bobbi Brown Cosmetics caters to  - there is something to boost everyone's confidence, regardless of your ethnicity, occupation, age or style. I am a strong advocate for brands who emphasis this, having grown up in a multicultural country with identity struggles as a child. This is a truly authentic campaign that I know will resonate with women all over the world.

L'Oreal Paris Brow Artist Sculpt: Review

Over the last few months, I'm convinced that I have found a product has totally changed my brow routine for life. When I first saw the L'Oreal Paris Brow Artist Sculpt, I was quite skeptical and saw it as more of a mascara type product to keep the brows in place, rather than it actually being the key step. Nevertheless, I gave it a try and did not expect to walk away being so impressed.

Everyday Makeup (Drugstore Only)

I haven't done an everyday makeup routine in a loooong time and I've been trying out a whole heap of new products from the affordable end of the spectrum that have made their way into my daily staples.

Travel Diaries: Snow Monkeys, Japan!

Feeling a little nostalgic so I thought it was time to share another snippet from my Japan holiday back in January. This time, we are venturing out on a day trip from Tokyo to the Nagano area to visit the snow monkeys who reside at Jigokudani!

Haircare Routine

Continuing on with the 'routine' posts, it's been a while since I've talked about hair. I've started going darker again in the last year or so, rather than lighter with every colour sesh. It's more so the maintenance that got to me in the end - having to touch up my roots every few weeks was a massive pain and going darker just means I can be lazy for a while longer before it's unbearably noticeable. With that also comes less products and more affordable options too (yay!).

Morning Skincare Routine

As the next instalment of my daily 'routine' posts, today I will share what products I am currently using as part of my morning skincare. Like in the evenings, I never used to bother with much in the morning aside from a bit of moisturiser before slapping on my makeup. These days I am definitely much more conscious of taking care of my skin and try not to skip out on anything unless I am in a serious rush.

DIY Teeth Whitening: My Experience

If you know me then you'll know I'm a definite coffee lover - it's not so much that I need the caffeine (though I do have withdrawal symptoms when I don't have one), it's more that I really enjoy the taste of a good coffee. I'm lucky to have grown up in Melbourne, always surrounded by a great cafe culture. Between my 2 cups of coffee, I also love drinking tea, especially in Winter. With that, though, comes stained teeth! Nooooooooo. Like anyone else, of course I want my teeth to be the whitest of whites. No one likes yellow teeth!

Years ago I ordered Crest Whitening Strips from the U.S. from time to time but it got pretty expensive and they were a bit harsh on me so I stopped. Recently I had the opportunity to try out White Glo's Diamond Series Advanced Teeth Whitening System so I decided to document my results.

Warning: if you don't want to see up close shots of my teeth then click away now!

Skeyndor Eternal Sleeping Oil Launch

Whenever I hear about a 'sleeping oil', I tend to associate it with Sunday Riley's Luna - now a firm favourite in the beauty cabinets of women all over the world. I am yet to bite the bullet and cave due to it's exorbitant price point, so when I had the opportunity to hear about Skeyndor's new Eternal Sleeping Oil, I was allllll over it.

Travel Essentials: Skincare + Makeup

I spent the weekend just gone by in Adelaide for a quick trip with the girls. We booked cheap tickets a few months ago during an airfare sale and it was a good little getaway to get us by until the next long weekend. We only had carry on luggage so I made a point of packing a lot of mini/deluxe sample size products that wouldn't weigh down my bag. This is not everything I packed but I did only bring the bare minimum with me and thought I'd share some of my newest discoveries on the blog.

Maybelline Blushed Nudes Lipsticks Review + Swatches

I know, I know, another lipstick swatch post. I can't help myself! I'm lucky to be gifted new releases by brands from time to time which of course allows me the opportunity to test and trial to share my opinions. I do have some fairly polarising thoughts on this collection, so read on if you are interested in hearing what I have to say..

Travel Diaries: DisneySea, Tokyo

It's been 6 months since my holiday to Japan so I thought it was about time I share some photos from the trip. Firstly though, it's been half a year already?! WHAT. I actually cannot believe we are now closer to Christmas 2016 than we were to last Christmas. It feels like I just packed away the tree and decorations a few weeks ago!! But here's a bit of a throwback to the day I went to DisneySea in Tokyo!

L'Oreal Magic Retouch Hair Root Concealer: Review

I first heard about this miracle concept when I saw it appear in several ads before YouTube videos. The ad made the product seem effortless and the most genius temporary, quick fix solution to covering your roots. I knew instantly that I had to give it a try - especially as I had terrible regrowth at the time of about 5cm (as seen below).

BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow Face Palette

Oh. My. God. Can we just take a moment to appreciate this beauty in all its glory? I don't think I've seen anything more beautiful in my life. The one, the only, Face Palette from Jaclyn Hill's Champagne Collection with BECCA Cosmetics.

Evening Skincare Routine

This post has been a long time coming! I haven't done a skincare routine post since last November though I did do a quick run through in my bathroom tour in April. Some of the items have remained the same but I've also been trying a number of new products including some from my Japanese / Korean beauty haul which I am excited to share my thoughts on. I have split this post up into pre-shower, in-shower and post-shower so let's jump straight in.

New In: Rimmel Moisture Renew Sheer and Shine Lipsticks

Another lip review and swatch post! Sorry for two in a row but these are too pretty not to share. Anyone who reads my blog will know by now that as far as drugstore brands go, Rimmel make my favourite lipsticks for sure. I have never been disappointed with the formula or application. The newest addition to the brand are the Sheer & Shine Lipsticks joining the Moisture Renew line, promising hydration and colour.

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks: Review + Swatches

I am probably one of the few people who has not yet bought into the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit hype. I will admit there were plenty of times I was tempted and created an account after watching a hundred videos that convinced me I needed Koko K and Posie K. But when it came to that 4am restock wakeup call, you can bet that I chose sleep over fighting at the checkout every time.

If you read my overview of the new Maybelline launches for Jul - Dec 2016, you would have seen a peek of their Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks. These are by far the most exciting products and I knew I had to write about them first. Right off the bat I will say these are not matte liquid lipsticks in the Kylie Jenner/Jeffree Star sense, but I'm totally okay with that!

Save the Date: NYX Launch in Priceline July 16th

If you're anywhere near as beauty obsessed I am, you probably already know that NYX Cosmetics is landing in Priceline stores very, very soon! This has been a long time coming, as although the brand has been stocked in Target for a number of years now, the stock range has always been mediocre and the shelves generally quite poorly maintained. Not only will it now be available in Priceline, the range has also expanded significantly with over 600-700 products in-stores and online! WOW.

New In: Essie Winter Nail Collection 2016

Possibly the only thing I like about Winter is switching up my nail colours for more muted cool tones. I have a bit of a nail polish problem and have tried shades from all ends of the colour spectrum, both budget and more pricey. Essie has always been a consistent, fail-safe brand in terms of formula and application so I already knew I would get on with the 6 new shades they have brought out this Winter.

New In: L'Oreal Paris Launches Jul - Dec 2016

Just when I thought I had enough makeup to last me into the next century, along comes L'Oreal Paris with their offering for the second half of the year. Again, I thought I would put together a first glance at all the new releases before delving into more detail with reviews and swatches in the coming weeks.

New In: Maybelline Launches Jul - Dec 2016

It's always exciting when products that we have been seeing all over the American blogosphere finally reach Australian shores. It's even more exciting when they are the newest launches from Maybelline! I have been trying out a whole heap of the products and while some really live up to the hype, others I haven't been so lucky with. I will be sharing more detailed thoughts, reviews and swatches over the coming weeks but thought I would pull together a summary overview for a first glance at everything. Most of these products have already started rolling out in pharmacies and grocery stores, and there will be plenty of media activity happening for the rest of the year.

QV Announces New Brand Ambassador: Kate Ritchie

It's an exciting moment when you find out one of your childhood idols is also the new face of the skincare brand you grew up with. Attending QV's launch for its new brand ambassador Kate Ritchie, I felt like a kid again with my dreams of meeting Sally Fletcher from Home and Away finally coming true at the ripe old age of 23. In all seriousness though, I was honoured to be part of the Discover the QV Difference campaign which aims to help Australians better understand their individual skincare needs.

Travel Diaries: Daylesford + Hepburn Springs

For someone who really enjoys travelling, I am really terrible at documenting my adventures! So I'm going to make a conscious effort to work on this. I've had so many people asking me to share photos from my trip to Japan and South Korea earlier this year, so watch this space. But first, let's start off with something a bit easier so I don't have to sift through 2,000 photos just yet! I went on a girls' trip a couple of months ago to the picturesque and serene Daylesford / Hepburn Springs area.

New In: Sisley Paris Launches

Sisley Paris is one of those brands that I am still becoming acquainted with, having first tried their lip balm, face mask and eyeshadow sticks last year. Following on from the success of their Phyto Eye Twists in 2015 and Lip Twists in 2014, Sisley have added 4 more shades to both ranges this year. I have had the chance to test out some of the colours that were more my style, as well as the new 'So Curl' curling and fortifying mascara.

New In: KYE x shu uemura Cushion Blush

It seems like every brand is jumping on the 'cushion' bandwagon now - and not just foundations either! When I first saw that shu uemura was releasing a cushion blush via the new KYE collection, I knew I could not resist trying one out. Just look at that packaging! I think blushes are still fairly new to the cushion market - I don't even remember seeing many when I was in South Korea in February!

New In: Rimmel London Sculpting Palette + Lip Balm

The whole contouring and highlighting thing has been so on trend in the last couple of years in the beauty industry, but I feel like it's taken a while for drugstore brands to catch up and come out with some really stand-out products particularly in terms of highlighters.

Rimmel is one of my favourite drugstore brands and in the last few years they have had some really great launches to rival their more pricey counterparts, notably their foundation and concealer base products. The Kate Moss range also continues to release great lipsticks and I still reach for their nudes on a regular basis. Excitingly, the line has now expanded to include a sculpting palette, consisting of a 3-in-1 highlight, contour and blush. They have also released a lip balm in the usual Kate packaging but in a white tube.

The Dressmaker Costume Exhibition

I'm a bit of a sucker for anything related to history or culture, and when I travel I love visiting museums, galleries, memorials and the like. When combined with fashion and style, I am all over it and you can be sure that I will be first in line. I first heard about The Dressmaker Costume Exhibition last year when it was showing out in Winchelsea. Luckily I didn't have to travel that far to see it, as they have just opened up in Melbourne today after a great run in the countryside.

Thank You + Candle Giveaway!

A couple of weeks ago, I attended an alumni event held by my alma mater, in which Daniel Flynn, co-founder of the Thankyou Group was the keynote speaker. Since hearing him speak and devouring his first book on the company's journey, I have been in a very reflective mood and have become much more conscious of everything around me.

This post is brought to you by Nuffnang and Circa Home.

For those who are a bit nosey and like to have a peek into other people's world (without being creepy, of course..) I thought I'd share one of the busiest places in the house - my bathroom cupboards, where I hoard a million and one products!!

New In: Elizabeth Arden Skincare + Makeup Launches

My first foray into Elizabeth Arden was their 5th Avenue perfume which I remember wearing very, very early on. Since then, I haven't really been inclined to try out much else from their beauty range although I've always been curious about the raved about 8 Hour Cream. In my mind, the brand has always been targeted towards a more mature audience, so I was very keen to learn more about their offerings at the recent product launch of 3 new items, revealed on the night as a new primer, mascara and anti-aging product.

Review: Laneige BB Cushion

It's interesting how often I am complimented on my skin these days. I say this because between the ages of around 13 - 16, I had really awful acne in my T-Zone area. I never broke out on my cheeks/chin or anywhere else on my face, but my forehead and nose areas were like a war zone. Without understanding the science behind skincare/makeup OR my actual skin, I started wearing heavy foundation at a young age because of how self-conscious I felt, thinking it would help. Obviously looking back now, I wish I had just let my skin breathe and heal on its own, rather than picking, covering with layers of foundation, and even sporting a full forehead fringe to ensure my forehead never saw the light of day, only transferring even more dirt and oils from my hair to my face.

Experimenting with makeup at a young age also meant that I learnt a lot more earlier on, before many of my friends started becoming interested in using cosmetics purely for aesthetic purposes as opposed to my reason being skincare concerns. My skin has come a long way in the last 10 years and while I get the odd pimple here and there around the nose, I have not had persistent, active breakouts for at least 5 years. Anyway - the point is people, although on the surface it may look like I have a flawless complexion, I have actually perfected the art of using a very lightweight, water-based foundation on a daily basis to look like my natural skin. In reality, underneath it all remains the red acne scars which have never really faded. I spoke a bit more about this in my #PowerOfMakeup post.

Japanese and Korean Beauty Haul

If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram (@suelovexx) you probably would've seen snippets of what I got up to in the last few weeks. If you don't, I went to Japan and South Korea! A trip I had been planning and looking forward to for months. In my last visit to Japan, I didn't pick up many Asian beauty products due to the sheer variety to choose from, plus my own lack of knowledge in which brands were known for what. And of course the South Koreans are known for their innovation, particularly in the skincare industry so I was super keen to pick up some new additions for my regime. Thanks to everyone for your recommendations as well - couldn't have done it with them!!

Hello, 2016.

Another year gone. Each one seems to go by quicker than the last. Thought I would share one of my last #fotd's for 2015, for a special dinner using the usual suspects - my HG products.

Cats The Musical!

Brought to you by Nuffnang and Cats the Musical.

I've been on a real musical kick recently, having seen Wicked, Les Miserables, Lion King and Strictly Ballroom all in the last 18 months or so. I was lucky enough to be given double passes to see Cats the Musical with Nuffnang in its first week of opening in Melbourne this week.

2015 Christmas Gift Ideas

I honestly cannot believe I am even writing this post already... it feels like only a couple of months ago that I was pulling together ideas for Christmas 2014, but a year has flown by already. It's definitely starting to feel very festive with stores everywhere displaying their seasonal decor. I've spent the last few weeks thinking about which items to suggest as gift ideas this year and am quite excited to share!

Current Skincare Loves: Morning and Night

As my last post featured my bare face, I thought it would be fitting to this week lead on with a bit about the skincare products I am currently using. Generally I'm happy to spend a bit more $$$ on skincare as there is definitely a difference between drugstore and high end products in terms of ingredients. There are some really fantastic mid-tier brands that work really well without breaking the bank though, and I'm a big fan of French pharmacy brands which I've mentioned time and time again throughout the history of my blogging life!

I have been using all of these items consistently for a while now so I feel well-informed to vouch for their performance. I love this very fitting quote by David Khoo, Olay Skincare Scientist who says: “Make good skincare a twice daily habit and don’t wait till summer is here. Even the best skincare products take time to work (and you should be a little sceptical about products that promise dramatic results in 7 days or less), 2-4 weeks is a reasonable time to expect to see results.” So without further ado, I'll jump into it!

Sunday, 1 November 2015

Growing up, I have always been very self-conscious of my appearance, particularly my skin. In my early high school days, I suffered from really terrible acne on my forehead and around my nose area. I grew a fringe for many years to hide my forehead, which in hindsight was an awful decision as the oils from my hair would have done nothing to help my skin breathe. I also picked at the pimples around my nose area, which now, years later still leaves visible scarring and redness. It's no surprise then that I began dabbling with foundation and concealer from a young age, born from my insecurities associated with puberty. About 4 or 5 years ago, I went to a dermatologist intending to try Roaccutane, a very potent acne treatment as I honestly felt I needed it, however the specialist recommended I try the pill first. As a result, I was on the pill for about 2 years and luckily it really worked well in clearing up breakouts. Though still prone to the odd pimple here and there every few weeks, thankfully for the most part my skin has been fairly manageable since I came off it. As I mentioned though, I'm still very conscious of the redness and scarring that now serve as a reminder of my teenage years. One day I would love to feel comfortable enough to leave the house without an inch of makeup, but right now my bare minimum is concealer around the nose to neutralise the redness. Personal story aside, today I thought I would share a more full coverage look using some of the products I have been loving, and show what a difference makeup can make, especially for my confidence.

At Home Spa Bath!

It only took about 23 years but I finally have access to a bath tub which you may have seen a sneaky peek of here. I have given away so many gifted bath products over the years so was extremely excited to be able to keep and actually use my first ever Lush bath bomb a couple of months ago. This cute bunny one was part of their limited edition Easter treats earlier this year.

New In: Kate Moss by Rimmel Nude Collection

Kate Moss and Rimmel have been working together for a number of years now, releasing some of the most well-loved drugstore products in the beauty world. I remember loving the original Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipsticks in the black and red packaging which are still a great staple, especially for those just beginning to dabble with makeup. Even though I don't reach for nudes regularly, I just could not resist the pale pink Nude Collection which was released in September.

COLAB by Ruth Crilly Dry Shampoo

I have always been a user of dry shampoo and during the last 40% off haircare items sale at Priceline, I was very excited to spot COLAB on the shelves. COLAB is a line of dry shampoos developed by Ruth Crilly of A Model Recommends fame that I have heard much about from British beauty experts.

Spring Lip Favourites

Now that it seems Spring has officially hit Melbourne, I've finally been able to pull out some brighter colours from my lipstick drawers. I don't get much use out of lipsticks at all in Winter because of my dry and peeling lips problem (refer to here) so in this transition season I like to ease myself back into it with some really hydrating products that still inject some colour into my life.

I'm Lactose Intolerant?!

A bit different to my usual posts... but today I wanted to talk about my recently official 'diagnosis' of lactose intolerance. More writing and less pretty pictures today. In the last 12 months or so, I came to realise that my constant tummy grumbling and bloating was not because I was always hungry, and in fact, not normal at all! I don't know why but I always just put it down to not eating the right amount of food, and never thought to consider if it could be something in my actual diet that was affecting my stomach. A friend at work is lactose intolerant and we used to chat about it quite often when people were making coffees in the kitchen, and that's when it got me thinking, leading to a bit of research.

The Struggle Returns: Dry, Flakey Lips

Last Winter I had a terrible time with my lips being dry and flakey, and really struggled to find some quality lip balms that actually helped to heal and nourish my lips. I kept up my routine in the warmer months in the hopes that I would escape such a battle this year, but sadly I did not come out unscathed. I tried a couple of new products this year and thought I would round up my favourites, both high end and drugstore. It's now officially Spring so I am hoping things will start returning to a more manageable stage now, so that I can whip out some bright lip colours!

Two Birds Cafe, Collingwood

Brunch is my favourite meal of the day by far, and my weekends are precious because I need to pick wisely on where I decide to try. One of my lovely friends' sister and brother-in-law have just re-opened up Two Birds Cafe, tucked away just off Gertrude and Smith St in Collingwood, so it made my weekly decision very easy last weekend.
